NZ CameraTalk – June 2026

Summary
Charlie Yang's National Convention image covers the third 2026 edition of CameraTalk, and June 2026's PSNZ magazine fills its pages with the Rotorua convention programme, from speakers at 21 to the Honours Banquet at 77.
CameraTalk June 2026, the Photographic Society of New Zealand's official magazine and its third edition of the year, opens with From the President at 4 and Key Dates for the Diary at 6. The Rotorua 2026 convention, Capture the Spirit, dominates: speakers at 21, optional shoots at 36, workshops at 40, field trips at 65 and the Honours Banquet at 77. Judge accreditation updates land at 12, FIAP News at 16 and 2026 Honours Recipients at 19.
The back runs Ashburton Regional Convention at 86, Nelson National Triptych Salon at 90, Mark Berger's Journey to Fellowship at 92, Workshop Reviews at 108 and Canon Online Round 2 Results at 120. For members the value is administrative and practical: deadlines, honours and salon results in one place, plus a convention programme long enough to plan a whole trip around.

Content Guide
▸ Convention
p.20 · CAPTURE THE SPIRIT – ROTORUA 2026
The issue's spine is the Rotorua 2026 national convention, Capture the Spirit, laid out from page 20 with sub-sections for speakers at 21, optional shoots at 36, workshops at 40, field trips at 65 and the Honours Banquet at 77. It gives members the programme in full. Register for the workshops before they close, since the issue lists them in detail.
p.21 · SPEAKERS
The speakers section at 21 names the presenters appearing at Rotorua and what each will cover. It lists talks rather than vague themes. Pick two speakers whose subjects you shoot, and book those sessions first.
p.36 · OPTIONAL SHOOTS
Optional shoots at 36 lists the additional photographic sessions around the convention, with locations and timing. It is where the practical shooting gets scheduled. Sign up for one location you have not photographed before.
p.40 · WORKSHOPS
Workshops at 40 runs the hands-on sessions, naming each and its leader. The listings give enough detail to choose between them. Choose by leader as much as by subject, since the teaching style varies.
p.77 · HONOURS BANQUET
The Honours Banquet at 77 closes the convention programme, listing the event and the honours being presented. It names the recipients alongside the dinner. Book the banquet seat early, because it is the one event with a fixed capacity.
▸ Society
p.4 · FROM THE PRESIDENT
From the President at 4 sets the society's direction for the period, naming the priorities and the work ahead. It is the page that frames the rest of the issue. Read it before the convention listings, since it explains the year's focus.
p.12 · JUDGE ACCREDITATION PANEL UPDATE
The judge accreditation update at 12 covers who has been accredited and what the panel requires. It names the judges and the standards. Check the requirements here before applying for accreditation yourself.
p.16 · FIAP NEWS
FIAP News at 16 reports the international federation's business relevant to PSNZ members. It names the events and the distinctions. Track any FIAP distinction you are working toward against the dates here.
p.19 · 2026 HONOURS RECIPIENTS
2026 Honours Recipients at 19 lists the members receiving honours this year. The page names each person and the honour. Congratulate a recipient from your own region, whose name will be here.
▸ Results & Reviews
p.90 · NELSON NATIONAL TRIPTYCH SALON 2026
The Nelson National Triptych Salon 2026 at page 90 covers the salon and its results. It names the winning work and the entrants. Enter next year's triptych salon using the format shown here.
p.92 · MARK BERGER'S JOURNEY TO FELLOWSHIP
Mark Berger's route to Fellowship is told at 92, with the work and the standard required named. The piece gives a concrete example of what a Fellowship panel looks for. Use his sequence of images as a model if you are working toward honours.
p.108 · WORKSHOP REVIEWS
Workshop Reviews at 108 reports back on workshops members attended, naming the leaders and what was taught. The reviews tell you which sessions were worth the fee. Book the next workshop from a leader reviewed well here.
p.120 · CANON ONLINE ROUND 2 RESULTS
Canon Online Round 2 Results at 120 prints the competition results, naming photographers and their placings. It is the page members check first. Compare your own entry against the placed images named here.

Editor's Take
CameraTalk June 2026 is a society magazine doing a society magazine's job, and it does that job well: the Rotorua convention programme from page 20 through the Honours Banquet at 77 is thorough enough to plan an entire trip from, and Mark Berger's Journey to Fellowship at 92 is the most useful single piece for any member chasing honours. The weakness is that this is an administrative document more than a read: From the President at 4 and the council listing at 8 will mean nothing outside the membership, and there is no general feature to hold a casual reader. The cover, Charlie Yang's image from the National Convention, is a solid choice and better than the usual society cover. This is essential for PSNZ members and close to unreadable for anyone else — buy it if you are going to Rotorua, otherwise skip.
Strengths
• Rotorua programme detailed enough to plan a trip
• Berger Fellowship piece models the honours standard
• Canon results and salon coverage serve members
Weaknesses
• Mostly administrative, with no general feature
• Council and president pages mean little to outsiders
Verdict: Essential for members, Browse only otherwise — Rotorua programme and honours content are member-only value.
