Northern Horse Magazine – June 2026

Northern Horse Magazine – June 2026

Summary

A Ribble Valley Riding Club champion takes the cover of Northern Horse Magazine June 2026 (Issue Number 128), photographed by Bobby Jo Imaging. Editor Barry Reynolds fills the issue with local dressage, riding club shows, eventing and an equine influenza warning.

Cockshot Dressage over the weekend of 25–26 April supplies the bulk of the reports. Sally Stead and Pixie top the unaffiliated card with 71.82% in Intro 2 Seniors, and Jodie Sharp and Orendy take two affiliated wins on 71.19% and 70.21%.

Equine flu runs through the issue as the health story, with veterinary advice at page 38 and local show restrictions at page 53. Emily Roscoe and Twinshock Lillypops win both Advanced Medium classes, and Sophie Kerr and Reya win Elementary 1 and Medium 1.

▸ Health and Features

p.38 · Veterinary Advice on Equine Influenza
The vet page gives advice on equine influenza, the issue's running health story. Vaccination and isolation are the two defences that actually work. Check your horse's vaccination date before the next show.

p.53 · Local Show Restrictions on Equine Influenza
Local show restrictions on flu are set out here, alongside the vet advice. Restrictions decide whether you can enter at all. Read your show's rules before you load the lorry.

p.7 · Readers Success Story — Jo Wainwright & Angola Frost
Jo Wainwright and Angola Frost get the readers' success story. Reader stories are the ones a regional magazine exists for. Send in your own result before the next issue closes.

p.35 · Fell Society Show
The Fell Society Show gets a report at page 35. Native pony societies keep breeds most riders forget. Enter one Fell class this season.

p.36 · Working Hunter Show
The working hunter show is reported at page 36. Working hunter is the class that tests a horse rather than a turn-out. Ride one working hunter round before the season ends.

▸ Reports and Regulars

p.12 · Eventing
The eventing report runs at page 12, with local riding club shows filling pages 18 to 32, 40 and 54. Riding club reports are the reason readers buy a regional title. Check one local result against your own entries.

p.44 · Unaffiliated Show Jumping
Unaffiliated showjumping is reported at page 44. Unaffiliated classes are where most riders actually compete. Enter one unaffiliated jumping class this month.

p.46 · Local Highlights from Major Events
Local riders' results at major events get page 46. Local riders at big events are the story a national magazine misses. Follow one local rider's season from here.

p.10, 14-17, 50 · What's On
The What's On listings run across several pages. Listings are the most-used pages in any regional magazine. Book one date from the listings this week.

Editor's Take

The Cockshot reports make Northern Horse Magazine June 2026 what it is: two days, dozens of named horse-and-rider combinations, and real scores — Sally Stead and Pixie's 71.82%, Jodie Sharp's double on 71.19% and 70.21%, Emily Roscoe's two Advanced Medium wins. Regional magazines live or die on exactly this, and here the dressage is full. The flu double — vet advice at 38 and show restrictions at 53 — is the responsible spine. Weakest is the cover: Trump Turnberry's Scottish coastline advert sits on the front, and "Jure 2022" appears on the contents page against June 2026 elsewhere, which is a print or OCR error worth noting. The Prix St Georges result is truncated and cannot be confirmed. Buy this for local dressage results; it is too regional for anyone outside the north.

Strengths
• Cockshot gives two days of named results and scores
• 71.82%, 71.19% and 70.21% are real winning marks
• Flu gets both vet advice and show restrictions
• Fell Society and working hunter pages widen the issue

Weaknesses
• Trump Turnberry advert on the cover
• "Jure 2022" print error against June 2026
• Prix St Georges result truncated

Verdict: Selective read — essential for local riders, narrow for everyone else.
