Tatler UK – June 2026

Summary

HRH The Prince of Wales sits for an official portrait by Oluwole Omofemi on Tatler UK's June 2026 cover — "A Prince for Our Times" in the Annual Commonwealth Portrait Issue, a 136-page Royal Special covering the Prince's portrait, Jade Holland Cooper's 10 million Cotswolds HQ, Katy Balls' first year in Washington, and Hugo Burnand's journey from Bystander photographer to Buckingham Palace. This Tatler UK June 2026 edition opens with "More is amore" (p.26) covering a Venetian wedding and closes with a Tatler Throwback (p.136) on 1986's girls.

The Bystander section runs from Venice's four-day festivities (p.26) through Sienna de Gale's gilded 21st (p.28), the Newports' black ballet dinner (p.31), Sophie Stanbury's engagement at her own 50th (p.32), and the Shepherd-Cross's romcom-worthy wedding (p.33). "A woman in a Mann's world" (p.39) profiles society wild child Erika Mann as a witness to history.

Fashion runs "I'm in chains" (p.59) on gold-link jewellery, "Trends in high places" (p.60) for British summer-season dressing, and "Chapeau!" (p.78) on hat-making at new heights. "Palette to palace" (p.64) profiles Omofemi's portrait of the Prince. "Self-made Jade" (p.72) visits Holland Cooper's 10 million HQ. "Welcome to the Swamp" (p.92) is Katy Balls' Washington diary.

p.26 · More is amore — Four-day festivities and a grand marriage in Venice
Bystander photographs a four-day Venetian wedding celebration, covering the church ceremony at Santa Maria della Salute, the palazzo reception and the Grand Canal boat procession. The guest list included European royalty and fashion figures. The wedding cake alone required 3 pastry chefs working for 5 days.

p.32 · I propose a toast… — Sophie Stanbury finds time to get engaged at her own 50th
Sophie Stanbury's partner proposed during her 50th birthday dinner at a private members' club. The Bystander coverage photographs the moment, the ring (a 3-carat cushion-cut diamond in platinum) and the celebration that followed.

p.39 · A woman in a Mann's world — How society wild child Erika Mann became a dogged witness to world history
Erika Mann, daughter of writer Thomas Mann, lived a life that spanned Weimar Berlin, 1930s London and postwar America. The feature traces her journey from cabaret performer to war correspondent. She was one of the first journalists to report from the liberated Dachau.

p.51 · The Book of Jonah (and Lily) — Lily Allen and a Freud scion as the hottest new couple
The Bystander column reports on the unexpected pairing of pop star Lily Allen and a descendant of Sigmund Freud. The piece covers their first public appearances, their shared interests and the social reaction. They were photographed at a book launch and a private gallery opening.

p.59 · I'm in chains — Add glittering gold-link jewellery to really shine in glamorous circles
An evening-jewellery edit featuring chunky gold-link chains in various weights and lengths. Seven pieces from Cartier, Bulgari, Tiffany and independent designers. The styling rule: wear gold chains layered over a high-neck top or against bare skin for maximum impact.

p.64 · Palette to palace — Artist Oluwole Omofemi turns his brush to the Prince of Wales
Oluwole Omofemi discusses the process of painting the official portrait of HRH The Prince of Wales. The feature covers the three sittings (each 2 hours), the colour mixing for the royal complexion, and the symbolic elements included — a nod to the Prince's environmental work through a green pigment mixed from crushed foliage.

p.72 · Self-made Jade — Inside Jade Holland Cooper's 10 million Cotswolds HQ
Jade Holland Cooper, founder of the eponymous clothing brand, gives Tatler a tour of her new 10 million headquarters in the Cotswolds. The feature covers the design of the workspace, the brand's growth trajectory and Cooper's philosophy on scaling a British fashion business. The HQ includes a showroom, a photography studio and a staff restaurant.

p.92 · Welcome to the Swamp — Katy Balls' year in DC, from Maga parties to Melania's motorcade
The Spectator's Katy Balls files a dispatches-style feature on her first year as a Washington correspondent. The piece covers the culture shock, the political access and the surreal social scene. Her most surreal moment: discussing Brexit at a Mar-a-Lago dinner next to a former White House chief of staff.

p.104 · Don't Mention the war — Storm, scandals and a Cocteau conflict on the Cote d'Azur
A feature on the social conflicts simmering beneath the surface of the French Riviera's glamorous exterior — property disputes, inheritance battles and cultural tensions between longstanding families and new-money arrivals.

p.117 · Moor than meets the eye — A pilgrimage to Brontë country
A travel feature visiting the Brontë parsonage in Haworth, the surrounding Yorkshire moors and the literary pilgrimage sites. The piece covers the newly restored parsonage rooms, the walking routes and the local accommodation. The best Brontë experience: the 6-mile circular walk from Haworth to Top Withens.

Editor's Take

The Prince of Wales portrait by Oluwole Omofemi is genuinely historic — the first time Tatler has used an official royal portrait as a cover image, and the process piece (p.64) with the artist's specific colour-mixing details is excellent. Jade Holland Cooper's HQ feature (p.72) offers a rare 10 million-pound property access story. But the Bystander section runs 28 pages (p.26-55) before a single fashion page appears, which is excessive even by Tatler's standards. Katy Balls' Washington diary (p.92) is the best-written piece in the issue. Best for royal enthusiasts and fashion-business readers; the Bystander-heavy front book may test patience.

Strengths
• Prince of Wales portrait is a genuine historic cover for Tatler
• Omofemi portrait-process feature reveals specific colour-mixing and sitting details
• Katy Balls' Washington diary is the best-written feature in the issue

Weaknesses
• Bystander runs 28 pages before any fashion content
• The "Book of Jonah" Bystander item is speculative celebrity gossip with thin sourcing

Verdict: Essential — The royal portrait and Omofemi feature make this a collector's issue; Katy Balls' dispatch is a bonus.
